LENTEN TALKS
Talk on the Last Supper Saturday, March
20
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM in the Church Hall
Refreshments will be served after the 8:00 am Mass, prior to the talk
Fr. James Kruse, a priest of the Diocese of Peoria and presently in
graduate studies at the Catholic University of America will present an
inspiring talk on the Last Supper. The central act of worship as
Catholics is the Mass. It was at the Last Supper that Jesus instituted
the Holy Eucharist. Why did Jesus choose that particular meal to do
this? What was that special supper like? How did it proceed? Fr.
Kruse will explain not only the rituals of the Last Supper, but will
also help us to understand more fully and thus celebrate more deeply the
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Religious Cults: Are they still with us?
Thursday, March 18
7:00 PM in Church Hall You’ve
heard their names before: Scientology, Moonies, Hare Krishna. You may
not hear so much about them nowadays, but they are very much around and
want to attract our youth, particularly our Catholic youth. They use
religious terminology, but in fact are not authentic religions, but
cults. Mr. Joseph Flanagan, raised Catholic and presently an attorney,
was a member of the Church of Scientology for 5 years. Come hear about
how he was attracted by this particular cult, what life was like within
it, and how his family got him out of it. Mr. Flanagan will show the
clear difference between true religion and religious cults. This talk
is especially helpful to teenagers, college-bound students and young
adults, but everyone will benefit from the first-hand knowledge Mr.
Flanagan will share with us.
